Alpha / Omega Garden Stakes

I’ve drawn three straightforward approaches to the prompt.

I have also drawn an abstract / narrative approach, of which there are two versions.

The image below contains the three straightforward approaches. For the sake of clarity in communication, I’ve named them Signal, Banner and Emblem.

In bronze, these are in the $2,000-3,000 range as pairs.

The two drawings below show the abstract / narrative approach, which I’ve provisionally titled “Flight.”

I was inspired by feelings that came to mind from making a piece early last year, which I’ve included below the drawings. A sense of oneness despite separation, being inextricably linked through time and space to each other.

Very broadly, I thought the theme of birds and flight would be beautiful in your garden.

More specifically, in the Alpha stake, I wanted to capture the freedom and thrill of new beginnings, the lateral loops at the bottom rising playfully into soaring lift-offs at the top. The shape is a very abstracted A.

The Alpha stake is the same in both drawings. The two Omega stakes are visually similar but differ in the story being told.

In the first version, the birds remain flying, as if they will never stop. There is a continued sense of motion and discovery despite the uniformity of the O shape.

In the second version, the birds have landed in peaceful rest, perched together on the trails of their own unified flight path, which is now frozen in space and time to become their home. To me there is an implication that their adventurous history has built a stable future, and that still new beginnings might emerge from the nest of this Omega.

All of these shapes – the A and both O options – would be fully three-dimensional forms, the Alpha somewhat like a cone and the Omega like a sphere, so that they would visually work from any angle.

I would like to offer both of these options for your consideration. To me they are just about equal visually, and they both express, I hope, a sense of wonder and gratitude across the spectrum of life.

For a sense of scale, I imagine the Alpha stake reaching up to about 7’ tall. At that height and delicateness of bar, the soaring birds will sway in a strong breeze, adding a subtle kinetic element to the movement and theme of that stake.

In bronze, the pair would be around $15,000.
