Icons

I specialize in traditional Christian icons hammered by hand from a single sheet of brass, bronze, or copper using ancient chasing and repoussé techniques. Guided by the rich visual history of Christian iconography, particular that of the Eastern rite, I design icons for liturgical and devotional settings. Once the design is finalized, I bring it to life through careful hammer work, shaping the metal from the reverse and refining it from the front to develop subtle relief and clarity of line.

The surface is finished with fine natural materials—typically a soft patina and a layer of beeswax—that preserve the character of the metal and accentuate the imagery. The border and edge are integrated into the same sheet, with optional hidden brackets that allow for clean wall-mounting. With metals resistant to corrosion and craftsmanship intended to hold up across generations, these icons are made to endure, whether placed indoors or outdoors.

My work is grounded in a deep respect for traditional Christian iconography. While I do not copy existing icons, I study prototypes closely and consult with experienced iconographers to ensure that my work will make a faithful and lasting contribution to sacred spaces.
